I hate Halloween, but I don't want my kids to have to go looking for Halloween fun at someone else's house that might choose to be more graphic in nature. So I have been taking baby steps towards adopting some fun Halloween things. This helped:

We live in between two houses that have decorated for Halloween with skeletons, decapitated heads, zombies coming out of the ground, and a scary floating zombie thing. I hate that kind of Halloween, but I defiantly go for the cute pumpkin pizza Halloween.
